Question: Why are we using suture material in black color only? Why not other colours in periodontal flap surgery?

Vani Rahul Deodhar: Hmm..visibility..

Naresh Dondapati: black color used for diffirentiate the suturing thread from gums and visibility

DrMsv Shanmukh Arjun Setty: y not abt violet and blue ?

Vani Rahul Deodhar: Its universal..but y make things complicated? Whether blue or black, ultimately wht matters is whether u have done ur job properly or not..so focus on tht..not on such things..there is nothing intelligent abt tht! 🙂

Sridhar Reddy Arumalla: BLOOD COLOUR IS RED, TISSUES ARE PINK IN COLOUR, SUTURES MUST BE IN CONTRAST COLOUR, SO THAT SUTURES CAN BE EASILY IDENTIFIED EVEN IF THEY ARE COVERED BY TISSUES.

DrMsv Shanmukh Arjun Setty: thnq sir…

DrMsv Shanmukh Arjun Setty: Vani Rahul Deodhar oye dis question was raised by my examiner in final pg exam.. kanukkomani cheppindi thanu. so asking in this way

Vani Rahul Deodhar: btw sutures are available in different color

Vani Rahul Deodhar: http://www.demetech.us/…/demetech-handout-dental.pdf

Vani Rahul Deodhar: also, fyi, black is for visibility..absorbable sutures may be colorless..and sometimes sutures maybe color coded as per their thickness..eg: Prolene sutures..ok?

Ravishankar Potluri: i believe black color simply makes the stitches easier to see in the wound if used on surface skin or in mucosa..

Ravishankar Potluri: very easy to distinguish on equipment trays and in equipment and materials preparation for surgical procedures also..anyway it is more of a personal choice for the surgeon.
